Shaker kitchens date back to the 1700s, invented by a religious group called the Shakers who enjoyed simple living. This is apparent by the no fuss straight forward minimalistic design that makes a Shaker kitchen calming and inviting. The doors consist of a flat centre panel and raised border, a style that has certainly stood the test of time due to its aesthetic appeal and functionality.

Although kitchens have moved on considerably, the Shaker kitchen remains our most popular choice. This is mainly due to their versatility and the ability to adopt all manner of interior design styles from traditional farmhouses, cottages, coastal retreats and even modern city apartments.

Storage Features

A chefs pantry is fast becoming one of the most desired feature in the home. With multiple functions from preparing and storing food, to housing appliances they not only give a focal point to the kitchen but also free up much needed worktop space. Our shaker larders and pantry’s are available in a choice of interior colours, such as traditional Oak that will give a beautiful warm contrast or simply match the colour of the cabinet doors, whatever you decide you are shore to create a wow factor.

Adding spice drawers, wicker

baskets, open shelving and pull wooden trays, only adds to the charm of a Shaker kitchen, giving the impression of an effortless traditional look.

Shaker Island

Where a room allows, a central island could serve as somewhere to cook for your family, work remotely or socialise with friends.

Not only is the island itself eye-catching but will also give you additional storage such as large  drawers to store plates, cutlery and large cooking pans.  With islands coming in many shapes and sizes, they can accommodate integrated bins, small prep sinks, wine coolers, ovens and hobs. Depending on how you use your kitchen an island can be tailored to suit all your needs.

Two Toned Shaker Cabinets

Two tone kitchen ideas can vary depending on how bold or conservative you want to go.

As a rule of thumb, it’s better to opt for the darker colour on the base cabinets and something lighter for the upper cabinets.

The simplest and popular way of creating a two toned kitchen effect is by highlighting the island in a bold contrast colour, teamed with a paler shade on the cabinets around the perimeter of the kitchen.

At Essex Kitchens & Bedrooms all our shaker kitchen ranges are available in a choice of beautiful colours, however, if you have a preferred period colour from Farrow & Ball or something more unique to you, our bespoke paint to match service provides a vast choice.

We get excited with any new kitchen project, the layout of the kitchen is one of the most important things to consider when we are designing your new space, tailored for the way you and your family live your lives.

Our Shaker kitchens come in a large range of different styles and designs, book a no obligation appointment to discuss your upcoming project with us on  01621 893491
